Apple held its WWDC 2026 keynote on June 8, 2026 at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. The event ran for about 1 hour and 15 minutes and was packed with software announcements across every Apple platform. The single biggest theme of the entire event was Siri AI — a completely rebuilt version of Siri powered by Google's Gemini models. Siri AI is Apple's most significant product announcement in years. It is a fully rebuilt assistant with its own dedicated app, powered by Google's Gemini models. Siri can now hold back-and-forth conversations, act across apps, search through your personal data, and complete complex multi-step tasks. Apple says Siri AI is now on par with ChatGPT and Google Gemini in day-to-day capability. On iPhones with a Dynamic Island, Siri AI now animates there during requests instead of at the bottom of the screen.

🤖 Siri AI — The Full Picture
Apple confirmed that Siri AI runs on Google's Gemini models under the hood. This is a major change — Apple has built its own interface and personal context layer on top, but the underlying AI intelligence comes from Google. The new Siri is available across iOS 27, macOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27. However, it requires iPhone 15 Pro or newer for Apple Intelligence features, and iPhone 17 Pro for the most advanced on-device model with expressive voices and improved dictation accuracy. Siri AI is not available in the EU at launch due to Digital Markets Act regulations, and not available in China.
🇮🇳 What WWDC 2026 Means for Indian Apple Users
- All iOS 27 features will be available in India normally — EU restrictions on Siri AI do not apply here.
- To use Siri AI and Apple Intelligence, you need at least iPhone 15 Pro (around Rs. 1,19,900) or iPhone 16 (around Rs. 79,900).
- Siri AI is currently English-only. No Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, or other Indian language support has been announced yet, which limits how useful it is for many Indian users.
- If you own an Apple Watch Series 6, 7, 8, or Ultra 1, you will not get watchOS 27. This is a big deal since many Indian buyers picked up these models during sales and discounts.
- iPadOS 27 drops older iPad models. Check if your iPad has at least an A14 Bionic or M1 chip before expecting the update.
- macOS Golden Gate likely ends Intel Mac support. If you are on an older Intel MacBook, this could be your last major OS update.
- All iOS 27, macOS 27, iPadOS 27 updates are free. No charge at all for supported devices.
- Public beta coming in July 2026. Final release expected around September 14, 2026 with iPhone 18 launch.
WWDC 2026 Verdict
WWDC 2026 was Apple's most AI-focused conference ever. Siri AI is a genuine leap forward and addresses years of Siri falling behind Google Assistant and ChatGPT. The Liquid Glass refinements, Photos upgrades, Wallet tools, and parental controls are all solid additions. The downside is steep compatibility cuts for Apple Watch and iPad, and Siri AI's English-only limitation makes it less exciting for the average Indian user right now.
